Did the recent stock plummet made you nervous? Did it make you commit wrong trading decisions and suffer financial losses in the end?

The good news is “mindfulness meditation” is a practice that may help stock traders achieve better trading performance. According to a recent study of ICO NIDA faculties, Asst. Prof. Dr. Peerayuth Charoensukmongkol and Assoc Prof. Dr. Vesarach Aumeboonsuke, they found that stock traders who practiced mindfulness meditation more intensively reported better trading performance than those who did not. Moreover, traders who practiced meditation tended to show a higher level of trading discipline and also reported a low frequency of panic selling and overreaction to news than those who did not meditate. In particular, these trading characteristics explain why traders who practiced meditation tended to have better trading performance. In the end, the authors suggested that mindfulness meditation should be taught to stock investors and traders in order to lower irrational behaviors that could unnecessarily lure them to commit unsuccessful trades.

This study investigated the relationship between the level of cultural intelligence exhibited by the airline cabin crew members and the degree of anxiety they experienced when serving foreign passengers. Intercultural communication competence and service attentiveness were proposed as two competencies that mediated the linkage between cultural intelligence and lower cabin crew anxiety. Survey data were collected from 372 Thai airline cabin crew members who worked at a leading international airline in Thailand. The results from a partial least squares regression analysis supported that intercultural communication competence and service attentiveness mediated the linkage between cultural intelligence and lower cabin crew anxiety.

A mission of the International College of NIDA (ICO-NIDA) is to help our students to develop research skills as well as to promote students to publish their research work in international scholarly journals.

Congratulations to Oay Pakamon Sasatanun, a PhD.’s student of ICO-NIDA who successfully published her research article in “Antecedents and outcomes associated with social media use in customer relationship management of Thai microenterprises”, The International journal ranked in the Scimago journal database.

Instructor: Peerayuth Charoensukmongkol

The present study investigated some antecedents and outcomes associated with the social media use intensity for customer relationship management (CRM), using the survey data collected from the sample of 217 entrepreneurs of some small retail shops in Thailand. The data were analysed by using the partial least squares regression. Regarding the antecedents, the results indicated that the intensity of social media use for CRM tended to be highly significant for the entrepreneurs who emphasised the service differentiation strategy, but not for those who emphasised the cost leadership strategy. Also, the positive relationship between the competitive pressure to use social media in business and the intensity of social media use for CRM was supported. Regarding the outcomes, the analysis indicated that the intensity of social media use for CRM was positively related to cost reduction and market expansion outcomes which, in turn, were positively linked to higher firm performance satisfaction.

This is an interesting study of the relevant role of Thailand on international trade of food and agricultural products, which are in concordance with its successful national strategy positioned itself as the “Kitchen of the World”. To that end, and when looking at its agricultural promotion and export policies, the country has not yet taken into consideration issues related to environmental externalities with regard to plantation methods; the value gains are only counted from exports. For this study, the main purpose was to discharge a trade-off analysis among consumptive water, land, and fertilizer use together with economic values of main crops for exporting and consumption in the country. The findings provide a fresh inside on how to increase income from agricultural exports by exploiting several natural resources such as rubber crops. Moreover, more sustainable agricultural practices are needed to foster such as increased yields and decreased fertilizer and water use.

The results of this study leads to conclusions that the government should clearly accentuate on encouraging good farming practices for sustainable crop production as high productivity to increase the values of agricultural practices on selecting the right crop with low natural resources and high economic value.

Parents or Peers, Wealth or Warmth?

The purpose of this paper is to gain knowledge between family wealth, positive outlook, and support from significant others, incorporating parents and friends, on self-efficacy and happiness. The partial least squared structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) has been used to analyze the impact of family wealth, social support, and positive outlook on self-efficacy and one’s own happiness. From the statistical results there are five pivotal points that can be drawn. Firstly, parents’ support is much more important than support from friends for individuals’ happiness. Secondly, those who receive more support from parents the level of self-efficacy is usually higher. Thirdly, individuals belonging to less wealthy families develop a stronger level of self-efficacy. Fourthly, in order to develop a higher level of self-efficacy parents’ support is truly important especially for individuals that are in less fortunate wealthy families than those who are in a wealthier family. Lastly, for individuals in a wealthier family the positive linkage within happiness and self-efficacy was clearly stronger than those in a less wealthy family.

In conclusion, the final outcomes expressed that the role of parents’ support is related to a high level of happiness and less for one’s self-efficacy and happiness support from friends as money is not the ultimate answer for happiness and self-efficacy as well. Moreover, less wealthy families enjoyed a higher level of self-efficacy due to receiving enough support from their parents.
